"My craft is called Lampworking. I use a
torch (lamp) to melt borosilicate glass rods. I
manipulate the glass with hand and bench tools
made of graphite, stainless steel, tungston and
brass. I usually begin with clear glass and
weld, draw, encase, wrap, rake and twist the
color rods onto the clear. The softening point
of the glass is 2250 degrees and reaches in the
5000 degree range. When finished I anneal the
glass in the kiln at 1050F. This relieves the
stress and makes for strong durable glass." |
